With every month comes a slew of fresh sales, with some items being more heavily discounted than others. For example, in July — particularly around Fourth of July — we saw a lot of deals on seasonal products such as grills, pool accessories and lawn games.
August will see its fair share of bargain buys. But which items in particular will be most reduced in price, and thus most worthy of your hard-earned money?
GOBankingRates spoke with shopping experts to get the lowdown on mega deals forecast to drop in this final full month of summer.

Back-to-School Supplies
According to a new LendingTree study, back-to-school shopping has become too expensive for many. The study found that 31% of shoppers say they’re unable to afford school supplies this year, compared to 26% in 2023.
Back-to-school shoppers should be on the lookout for enticing deals this August.
“It’s not surprising to see stores like Target and Walmart offering a variety of school supplies at starting prices around 25 cents each or so, providing a great opportunity for families to stock up without having to break the bank,” said Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst at DealNews. “Beyond the traditional supplies, retailers will also be leaning into back-to-school sales for things like clothing, shoes and backpacks.”
Ramhold recommended checking out Macy’s, which routinely knocks 50%-70% off items like shoes during its back-to-school sales. Also look at Amazon, which will typically cast a wider net and offer a selection of school-related products for up to 60% off.

Tech
Partly because of the consumer surge in interest around all thinks back to school, some retailers are rolling out great deals on tech.
“If you need a laptop or a printer, check out HP.com for back-to-school deals and promos,” said Trae Bodge, smart shopping expert at TrueTrae.com. “They have a dedicated ‘Back to School Guide’ with deep discounts on select items.”
For even more savings, also look for deals on mobile devices and services.
“For example, Mint Mobile has a slew of amazing deals where you can save up to $400 on Pixel phones and up to $200 on Samsung phones, and when you sign up for six months of service, you get six months free,” Bodge said.
Summer Clothing
Though summer will technically be winding down in August, hot temperatures across the country may not die down for a while. After all, this summer is expected to be the hottest on record to date. You may still be stocking up on summer apparel, either for now or for next summer. In either case, you’re in luck.
“August hits the sweet spot of having decent discounts on summer clothing as well as a solid selection to choose from still,” Ramhold said.
“Brands like Levi’s and Nike could see discounts up to 75% and up to 60% off, respectively, while we could see starting prices for things like polos and t-shirts as low as $7 each from brands like Nautica,” Ramhold said. “While there will most certainly be a plethora of clothing sales for Labor Day, too, by then the selection has dwindled further, and while the discounts may be notably low, the selection may also be severely restricted by that time.”
Bedding and Linens
Looking to refresh your bedding and linen selection? August is known for great sales in these departments.
“We often see sales on things like twin and twin XL bedding during this month, but occasionally retailers expand their sales to include other sizes, as well,” Ramhold said. “Historically we’ve seen things like throws for $7, sheet sets for $11 and three-piece quilt sets and comforters starting at just $20.”
Ramhold recommended checking out what Nordstrom and Kohl’s are offering around bedding sales. “In the past, we’ve seen Nordstrom take up to 66% off bedding, while Kohl’s has cut between 55% and 75% off select types of bedding, as well,” she said.
