When visiting Ballin’s, shoppers can expect to find an array of stylish pieces ranging from casual everyday separates to cocktail attire to evening gowns fit for a Mardi Gras ball. Founded by Wendy LeGardeur in 1981, Ballin’s has two locations in New Orleans (Dante Street and Magazine Street) as well as outposts in Covington, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Mobile, Alabama. Each location carries the boutique’s private labels and frequently hosts exciting trunk shows. Besides the gorgeous clothes, accessories, and gifts, Wendy’s favorite part about Ballin’s is seeing all the happy customers. She especially adores the loving interactions between visitors and Duke, her affectionate and fluffy Goldendoodle.
Duke is the shop’s enthusiastic and friendly four-legged employee. He shows up to work each day eager to please his boss (Wendy) and his coworkers. His favorite part of the job is greeting customers in his seasonal neckwear and giving them his paw. Duke spends time hanging out amongst the clothes at both New Orleans locations, but when he is at Dante Street, you might catch him taking a nap behind the counter when the store gets busy. He also loves to accompany Wendy on road trips to check out the other Ballin’s locations.
When Duke is off the clock, he’s still the same sweet, devoted, and protective pooch that customers know and love. “After a long day at the store, he sleeps while dreaming about treats,” Wendy shares. He loves starting his day with breakfast at Royal Blend and getting groomed at his “hairdresser.” Bay St. Louis is one of his go-to vacation spots, and he prefers to dine at The Sycamore House which is his absolute favorite restaurant. And while Duke is technically still a puppy, Wendy calls him an “old soul.”
