SHERIDAN — Sheridan Bay Park has one of the nicest views in the town, overlooking Lake Erie as a stunning sunset spot for campers and residents to enjoy.
The Town Board is continuing to invest in the park to make its surroundings live up to the standard its stunning view deserves.
After completing Phase I of renovations to the park last fall, highlighted by a new pavilion dedicated in honor of former Town Supervisor John Walker II, the Town is now moving forward with Phase II of renovations. The highlight of Phase II of the project is a new bathhouse, which the town is moving forward with obtaining grant funding to construct.
At a recent meeting of the Town Board, an agreement was entered into between the Town and Nussbaumer and Clarke, Inc., to move forward with obtaining grant funding for the bathhouse project. The Town Board approved the agreement with Nussbaumer and Clarke, Inc., in the amount of $75,700.
The Town will soon put the project out to bid with a total project cost estimated to be $562,300. Bathrooms and showers will be constructed in the newly constructed facility. Work will likely begin after the camping season concludes this fall, with bids to be sought in the coming months.
“It will be nice to have nicer facilities down there,” Town Clerk Rebecca Schafer said.
The Town also recently approved an annual agreement with the Memorial Field Association to utilize its grounds for the town’s Youth Recreation summer program. Memorial Field is located on Center Road in the town.
Pertaining to another potential project in the Town, a proposed 20-megawatt solar energy system, which spans from Newell Road to Cook Road, was not acted on at the recent meeting. The Town Board entertained a presentation from SunEast Kingbird Solar, LLC, and TRC Engineering at a public hearing just six days prior to the last meeting. The Town Board wanted more time to evaluate and discuss the project before taking action.
The next regular meeting of the Sheridan Town Board is July 10 at 7 p.m. in the town’s Community Center. Prior to that, the Town Board will hold a workshop meeting on June 26 at 7 p.m.
