Senior Center lists upcoming events

The Dunkirk Senior Center, Chautauqua County Office for the Aging and Concord Pharmacy will be sponsoring a Flu Vaccine and/or Covid Vaccine Clinic on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon. You must register for the clinic by calling New York Connects or the Dunkirk Senior Center at 716-366-7530. Insurance card will be required the day of the clinic.

There will be a Defensive Driving Class on Monday, Dec. 9 and Tuesday, Dec. 10. AARP is sponsoring the class. Must call the Center office to register. This event is open to the community. Attendance on both days of the class is required.

The Dunkirk Senior Center will be traveling to Grove City Outlet Shopping on Columbus Day, Oct. 14. There are more than 140 brand name outlets to shop. Several seats are available. The bus leaves at 9 a.m. Call the office to sign up.

The Center will be having a trip to the Amish Country on Tuesday, Oct. 29. There will be stops at Valley View Cheese, Malinda’s Candy Shop, Hostetler’s Quilt and Gift Shop, Miller’s Baked Goods and the Alpaca Gift Shop. Lunch will be at the South Dayton Hotel. This is a very enjoyable trip. The bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. Call the Center office to sign up.

The Senior Center is having a trip to Hollywood Casino at the Meadows and Hyatt Place on Nov. 11 to 13. Enjoy the casino or shopping. There will be a trip to the Festival of Lights at Oglebay on Nov. 12. Contact the Center Office for more information.

There will be a General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. Bring questions, suggestions or comments to the Board. Dues for the 2025 year may be paid starting at this meeting. Breakfast will be served to those that attend the meeting.

There will be a Halloween party on Saturday, Oct. 26. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with dinner being served at 5:30 p.m. Wear your favorite costume. Prizes will be awarded. The cost is $5 per member. Sign-up begins Thursday, Oct. 3 in the center office.

Open enrollment begins in October. Complete Medicare Services will be at the Center on Tuesday, Oct. 15, Wednesday, Oct. 23 and Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Independent Health will be at the Center on Thursday, Oct. 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. These services are open to anyone in the community.

The Office of the Aging is having an “Empowered Caregiver” series for those caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. The Dunkirk dates are Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Nov. 13 from 11 to 1. For more information and more dates around the County, call the Office for the Aging at 716-753-4582.

There will be a phone class at the Center on Oct. 30 at 10 a.m. Call the office to register. The next Big Bingo game will be Oct. 9. Doors open at 4 p.m. with a light supper being served at 4:30. Bingo will start at 5. Players must purchase a $2 ticket prior to the date of the bingo game. This ticket offers entry and entitles you to a jackpot card. Social time is held every Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Bring a bag lunch and play 25 cent bingo.

Pinochle is Monday and Friday at 1 p.m Exercise class is Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m. MahJongg is Tuesday at noon. Tai-Chi is Tuesday and Thursday at 3 p.m. Dominoes is Wednesday at 1 p.m. Hand and foot card game is Friday at 1 p.m. The birthday lunch for October will be held Oct. 30. Doors open at 11 a.m. with the birthday lunch starting at 11:30 a.m. Must stop in the Center office to register. You may bring additional guests for a cost of $10 per person.
