Senator Peters holds hearing at Lansing City Hall on the impacts of Infrastructure Law in Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (WILX)—Senator Gary Peters held a press conference earlier Tuesday morning to highlight funding for transportation and port projects across the U.S.

President Joe Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Job Act into law, which invests in state infrastructure, including roads, bridges, high-speed internet, electric vehicles, and the Great Lakes.   

Tuesday’s hearing examined the opportunities and challenges in implementing the law on the state and local level.   

Peters said the funding will help boost local economies.

Peters was joined by the Director of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Bradley C. Wieferich, The Director of the Port of Monroe and President of the American Great Lakes Ports Association Capt. Paul C. LaMarre III, The Chief Executive Officer of InvestUP Marty Fittante, Executive Director of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) Amy O’Leary, and The Business Manager, Michigan Laborers, Local 1191 Mike Aaron.
