Houston-based Sempra Infrastructure has been named ENR Texas & Louisiana Owner of the Year after a 2024 of exemplary work in the energy sector and positive community impact.Â
Sempra Infrastructure will be profiled in the April 14 edition of ENR Texas & Southeast, the combination of the former Texas & Louisiana and Southeast regions. Â
In July 2024, the firm pushed ahead with the second phase of expanding its Port Arthur, Texas, LNG facility, awarding a fixed-price engineering, procurement and construction contract for the project, set to include two liquefaction trains capable of producing roughly 13 metric tons per year of LNG, doubling the plant’s capacity to 26 metric tons per year
The project’s first phase is under construction, set to start commercial operation for two trains in 2027 and 2028.Â
The firm’s project in Port Arthur reaches further than LNG, including grants to 18 hunger-relief organizations alongside Bechtel, and the project includes two 600-plus-acre marshland restoration projects at the J.D. Murphree Wildlife Management Area north of Sabine Pass. To fight erosion, nearly 5 million cu yds of sediment will be pumped into the two marsh areas, providing a base for native vegetation to return.Â
Farther south, the firm is pursuing solar electrification projects throughout Mexico via its Sempra Infrastructure Foundation, which in 2024 partnered with organizations like the Mexican Red Cross to donate funds and install solar panels at Mexican hospitals.Â
At the helm is CEO Justin Bird, honored in October as the Energy Leader of the Year during the Gulf Energy Information Excellence Award, where the firm’s GROW, or Growing Responsibilities and Opportunities for Women, employee resource group took home the DE&I in Energy Award.Â
GROW, launched in 2020, is now more than 365 members strong and focuses on building women’s leadership capacity through fostering belonging, development and networking opportunities for women, per Sempra Infrastructure.
