Tennessee transfer running back Cameron Seldon has signed with Virginia Tech out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Seldon is a former four-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 4 athlete and No. 141 overall player in the country in the class of 2023, per the On3 Industry Rankings.
Seldon, the No. 18-ranked running back per On3’s Industry Transfer Portal positional rankings, appeared in six games this past season, finishing with 23 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown for the Volunteers. He also averaged 25.7 yards per return on three kickoff returns.
Virginia Tech is coming off a 6-6 regular season and will face the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Friday in Charlotte. The Hokies throttled rival Virginia, 37-17, in the regular-season finale in Blacksburg, where freshman QB Pop Watson III threw for 254 yards and one touchdown and running back Bhayshul Tuten added 124 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Seldon is Virginia Tech’s eighth transfer addition this offseason, joining fellow running backs Marcellous Hawkins (Central Missouri State) and Terion Stewart (Bowling Green), interior lineman Tomas Rimac (West Virginia), defensive backs Isaiah Brown-Murray (East Carolina), Isaiah Cash (Sam Houston State), Sherrod Covil (Clemson), and Tyson Flowers (Rice).
Seldon chose Tennessee over offers from Penn State, Maryland, Michigan and plenty of other Power 4 schools coming out of high school. He immediately contributed for the Vols in 2023, appearing in all 13 games and finishing the year with 106 yards on 25 carries.
Prior to signing with Tennessee, Seldon attended Northumberland (Heathsville, Va.) High. As a senior, he rushed for 551 yards and 11 touchdowns and added 18 receptions for 365 yards and five scores. He also had four touchdowns in the return game.
Bowling Green RB Terion Stewart signs with Virginia Tech
Stewart has spent the past four of the past five years at Bowling Green. He wasn’t enrolled for one season but made 32 appearances for the Falcons over the four others as their leading rusher in each of those falls.
In total, Stewart posted 392 carries for 2,359 yards and 23 touchdowns. That’s good for an average of 73.7 yards a game and six yards per carry. He had his most scores as a sophomore last year with eight and went on to have a career-best season as a junior this year with 160 touches for 890 yards and six more touchdowns.
Per the latest in On3’s Top Transfer Portal Players, Stewart is the No. 12 running back and the No. 182 overall transfer.
