Must read

Hello, weekend! The first one of October is on deck, and it will be a beauty.

Before we get there, we need to wind down and wring out the last of Friday’s showers. That strong autumn cold front came through right on schedule for the morning commute, but the steady rain broke apart into widely scattered showers by afternoon. Highs on Friday hovered on either side of 60, which is a bit cool for this time of year. That chilly air mass knocked the snow level down to only 6,000′, building the base already over the volcanic peaks like Baker and Rainier.

Now that the ground is damp, the atmosphere will have plenty of moisture to work with to create some morning murkiness. As skies clear to partly starry, radiational cooling will coax that moisture out of the ground, and it will become very foggy in some pockets of Puget Sound overnight: appropriately spooky for October! Lows will drop into the 40s, and as the sun comes up and burns through the low cloud cover, crisp blue skies will push highs back into the middle 60s. If you’re heading to Montlake to cheer on the Dawgs, the weather will be perfect near Husky Stadium for tailgating *and* sailgating.

How about the for the Seahawsk on Sunday? The Emerald City will be showing off on national television, with mostly sunny October weather pushing highs into the comfortable upper 60s. What a nice backdrop for Salmon Days (my fave!) in Issaquah and Bier Near the Pier in Anacortes! Back-to-work Monday will be even warmer, with highs hovering near 70 in Tacoma and Port Ludlow.

The next chance for autumn rain fills in by later Tuesday.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Shannon
