Samsung’s biggest AI features announced for the Galaxy S25 phones

Must read

Samsung is increasing its focus on AI in its new top smartphone series, Galaxy S25, and the South Korean tech giant is trying to find ways to get phones to offer more support in daily use and respond to user habits. Here’s a look at the most promising new AI features.

Smarter voice commands: To allow you to do more with voice commands, Samsung is opening up its smartphones to so-called AI agents from other developers. These chatbot integrations can independently perform tasks on behalf of users.

Spotify and WhatsApp are set to be on board at the start, allowing you to send an artist’s tour calendar to friends via WhatsApp with a single voice command.

An AI ‘morningbriefing’: Over time, the device should be able to personalise itself, for example, to adjust to when users leave for work and which route they take to get there.

A so-called morning briefing is set to compile all the information that the AI thinks you might need throughout the day. Samsung says an evening briefing then summarises tomorrow’s events and gives helpful forward-looking updates.

AI assistants: AI assistants are naturally returning to Samsung’s latest flagships and despite long being among the least-used assistants of major smartphone brands, Samsung’s own Bixby software is back promising more help in automating your device.

Gemini, Google’s answer to ChatGPT, will also be built-in to help with more general questions and tasks related to Google’s services. Samsung says owners will get Gemini Advanced, with Google’s most capable AI model, for free for six months.

Getting information about what’s on your screen: Google’s “Circle to Search” feature, which allows you to get information about what’s on your screen, has been improved. It now automatically recognises email addresses, phone numbers and web addresses.

Noise reduction for cameras: The camera has also been upgraded with AI features, and Samsung says the new chip architecture now allows for AI to understand which subjects are moving and which are stationary to reduce noise in low-light situations.

‘AudioEraser’: In a different kind of noise reduction, Samsung also demonstrated an AI-powered sound feature to help you reduce unwanted background noise in films you have made. The so-called “audio eraser” is designed to remove or turn down sounds like wind, waves crashing on a beach, birds singing or crowds cheering.

Although the demonstration looked impressive at Samsung’s event, it’s of course unclear how much it was prepped in the studio and how effectively you can remove background noise in practise without distorting the original recording.

One UI 7: Samsung says its latest version of Android, One UI 7, will also adapt the features and options you are offered depending on what you’re currently doing. With Samsung’s “AI select” tool, you then get offered AI editing tools when you highlight some text, for example.

Samsung is keeping the sales price unchanged from its predecessor, the Galaxy S24. The company confirmed the S25 would start at $799, $999 for the S25+, and $1,299 for the S25 Ultra – which comes with Samsung’s S Pen stylus built-in. Eurozone pricing is €899, €1,149 and €1,449 and UK pricing £979, £999 and £1,249.

The S25 Ultra now also has an ultra-wide-angle lens with a sensor that has 50 instead of the previous 12 megapixels. This should also greatly improve macro shots.
