HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — More than 100 families hit hard by Helene got a chance to have a Christmas meal and do some Christmas shopping on the night of Dec. 18, courtesy of Walmart and the Salvation Army.
The two partnered to host a holiday shopping event at the Walmart Supercenter in Hendersonville.
They surprised each family with a $500 gift card to spend on holiday toys and gifts.
“We get to be able to bless families,” Phillip Stokes, Salvation Army captain, told News 13. “We have some in here who would never think they were going to have Christmas because of the devastation with the hurricane.
Walmart store manager Joe Swingle said the experience was humbling.
“It’s very humbling. It’s awesome to be a part of that and to give back to the community,” Swingle said.
