Saginaw Walmart transformed to elevate shopping experience

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) – The Walmart in Saginaw has reopened after undergoing a remodel to bring in new interactive features to elevate customers’ shopping experience.

The store, located at 5825 Brockway Road, opened Friday morning, May 24, and celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony, a community celebration, and unveiled a community inspired mural.

The store’s mural is a part of Walmart’s Community Mural Program. The company said it’s an important part of transforming the stores and furthers its commitment to the communities it serves.

During the afternoon on Friday, popular vendors are offering free samples and food trucks are selling food in the parking lot. Additionally, area police, fire, and rescue vehicles and equipment are on display for customers to view.

The following are some of the new interactive features:

  • Front end transformation with increased numbers of self-checkout lanes and staffed registers for customer convenience
  • Walmart+ lane for easier checkout for members
  • Added more shopping carts for customer convenience
  • Added a new grab and go section in grocery area for quick meal and drink options for customers
  • Walmart created a Vision Center experience designed around the customer that is convenient, comfortable, and affordable that offers an assortment of quality eyeglasses and sunglasses with prescription lenses
  • Expansion of departments with a diverse variety of products, including summer merchandise to provide summer fun year-round
  • Infant area has increased in size to offer more shopping space while selecting furniture, strollers, baby monitoring equipment
  • Updated apparel department with new fixtures, fitting rooms, new products lines and display mannequins to help the customers see clothing selections
  • Vignette displays in home lines, hardware, and infants with life size product displays for easier visualization of product lines
  • Expanded pet department including fresh pet food selection
  • Expanded beer and wine selection and section with coolers
  • Expanded grocery pickup and delivery increasing stalls for customer convenience
  • New signage for easier store navigation shopping in store and using the Walmart app
  • Refreshed interior and exterior, including paint and signage
  • New fixtures and LED lighting throughout the entire store for better line of sight and easier navigation
  • New and updated flooring in almost every department
  • Refreshed mother’s room for a clean, comfortable, and private option for nursing mothers

Other updates made to the store as a part of Walmart’s Signature Experience include:

  • Activated corners: Exciting displays are featured at the corners of certain departments to pull customers in and help them touch, feel, and become a part of the space to allowing them to discover all that Walmart has to offer
  • Elevated departments: Transformed stores feature displays showcasing products that are out of their boxes so customers can imagine them fitting into their daily lives
  • More space to discover: Walmart has purposefully created more space for customers to explore and discover the breadth and depth of what their local store has to offer
  • Digital touchpoints: These new touchpoints located throughout the store help to communicate to customers the vast range of products and services Walmart offers online through the use of QR codes and digital screens
    • For example, in Walmart’s Pets area, a customer may scan the QR code to find additional dog bed options, learn about Walmart’s pet insurance service options, or have a 20-pound bag of kibble delivered to their door

Additionally, the location’s store manager and several associates presented $5,000 in grants to the following nonprofits in the Saginaw area:

  • $1,500 to the Saginaw Charter Township Police
  • $1,500 to the Saginaw School District
  • $1,000 to the Saginaw Community Food Club & Kitchen
  • $500 to Undercover Angels
  • $500 to the Emmaus House of Saginaw

Walmart has scheduled transformations of more than 25 Michigan stores for 2024.
