BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Continued water woes wash up millions in ARPA funding.
Governor Phil Scott and the Department of Environmental Conservation announced a nearly $7 million award to the Vermont Bond Bank on Tuesday.
The bond bank will disperse the funds as awards to small, mostly rural municipalities that need to restore and repair drinking and wastewater systems.
The idea is to upgrade or replace failing systems that may have been damaged during the July floods – or just because of old age. More information about accessing the funding is expected this month.
Money is also on the way to help manufactured housing communities manage stormwater.
Per Vermont regulation, any site with three acres or more of impervious surfaces has to treat stormwater runoff to reduce pollution entering waterways. This latest funding is earmarked for manufactured housing communities to meet the required stormwater controls.
The $5.6 million was announced by Governor Phil Scott and Vermont’s Department of Environmental Conservation and is paid for with ARPA funds.
