ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – The Rochester City Council plans to discuss several items at its Monday council meeting including the capital improvement plan for sanitary and stormwater infrastructure downtown and hear the Rochester Fire Department’s request for crucial equipment.
Self-contained breathing apparatus, or SCBA, is an air pack firefighters wear on their backs with masks to breathe in clean air when in danger to life or the health environment.
For several years, the City of Rochester has provided the fire department with funding for the air-packs.
The current air packs the department is using are nearing their life cycle.
The fire department is requesting $613,084 from the city to purchase 90 new ones.
If the council were not to approve the funding Caleb Feine, the assistant fire chief said they’d already set aside a budget for air-packs because of the important need.
“This is a great opportunity for us to replace our current stock so that we can continue to meet all of the standards necessary to keep our people safe as we move forward,” Feine said.
Additional funding to address sanitary and stormwater infrastructure
The council also plans to address additional funding for the city’s infrastructure improvements related to the Bold. Forward. Unbound investment.
In early October, the council voted to move forward with a Capital Improvement Plan costing more than $160 million starting in 2025.
The additional $1.6 million will be used for aging sanitary and stormwater infrastructure along with Mayo Clinic installations of a new cycle track infrastructure.
The general state infrastructure aid will provide the funding.
The meeting will take place at Rochester’s Government Center at 6 p.m.
