BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. – Several months after closing a store in South Whitehall Township, a retailer has reduced its Lehigh Valley footprint again.
GameStop, a retail chain where customers can buy and sell video games, video games consoles, collectibles and more, closed its location at 3926 Linden St. in Bethlehem Township in recent weeks.
The store operated in the Bethlehem Square shopping center.
“Thank you for being a loyal GameStop customer,” reads a sign posted on the storefront. “Although this store is closing, we look forward to seeing you soon at a nearby location.”
GameStop offers a wide array of new and pre-owned graded trading cards such as Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh!; video games such as Madden NFL 25 and Super Mario Party Jamboree; and video game consoles including Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch consoles
Customers also can shop virtual reality hardware and collectibles such as Star Wars, Superman and Transformers action figures.
It’s unclear what led to the Bethlehem Township store’s closure.
A GameStop spokesperson did not return a message seeking more information, including a reason for the closure.
As of February 2024, GameStop offered games and entertainment products in more 4,100 stores worldwide, with more than 2,900 of those stores operating in the United States, according to a United States Securities and Exchange Commission filing from March 2024.
The company had closed 287 of its stores over the prior year, according to the filing.
GameStop, which had more than 6,600 stores operating in 2015, on Dec. 10 released its third quarter 2024 financial results.
Net sales were $0.860 billion for the period, compared to $1.078 billion in the prior year’s third quarter.
Selling, general and administrative expenses were $282 million for the period, compared to $296.5 million in the prior year’s third quarter, and net income was $17.4 million for the period, compared to a net loss of $3.1 million for the prior year’s third quarter.
Additionally, cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities were $4.616 billion at the close of the quarter.
GameStop continues to operate other Lehigh Valley locations, including stores on William Penn Highway in Palmer Township, Nazareth Road in Lower Nazareth Township, MacArthur Road in Whitehall Township, Mill Creek Road in Lower Macungie Township, Airport Center Drive in Hanover Township, Lehigh County and at the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall.
Another Lehigh Valley GameStop store closed last year in the Crest Plaza on North Cedar Crest Boulevard in South Whitehall Township.
The Bethlehem Square shopping center is home to roughly two dozen tenants, including large chains such as Giant, Walmart, Home Depot and T.J.Maxx/HomeGoods.
In addition to the former GameStop location, two other vacancies include former Subway and Aaron’s locations.
