HARMAN, W.Va. (WDTV) – A Randolph County student has been announced the state’s 2024 Doodle for Google winner.

Colleena Lewis, a student at Harman School, submitted her artwork based on her wishes to become a cardiothoracic surgeon and have a family in the future.

In January, Google asked students across the country to submit their ideas for the contest by answering the prompt “My wish for the next 25 years…” through their art.

Lewis’ artwork was one of 55 state and territory winners selected among tens of thousands of submissions. To celebrate their achievements, Google sent each of the 55 students Google hardware and swag and held celebrations to showcase their artwork.

“My wish for the next 25 years is to graduate medical school, become a cardiothoracic surgeon, and, sometime in between, get married and have kids,” Lewis answered in her entry.

All 55 winners will now move on to a national contest, and five national finalists will be selected. The winner will receive a $55,000 scholarship and a $50,000 technology package for their school or a nonprofit organization of their choice.

“We were amazed by the submissions we received,” said Doodle Product Marketing Manager Selly Sallah. “Across ages, students showcased their visions for the future in thoughtful and unique ways. Young artists shared a range of things they wished for in the next 25 years including safer communities, technological breakthroughs, a cleaner planet, and greater unity among people. Given the challenging nature of the past few years, we were really inspired to see the many ways students have been facing the opportunities and challenges that the future brings.”
