ANNAPOLIS, Md. (7News) — Everyone agrees that the infrastructure on the Bay Bridge needs to be updated or replaced; the question is what is the best option?
The iconic structure that crosses the Chesapeake Bay has been getting people across to the eastern shore and beaches since 1952.

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is conducting the second tier of the Chesapeake Bay Crossing Study, and on Monday night, the public will have a chance to learn about the plans and give feedback. There are currently seven proposed alternatives, which include adding spans, building a double-decker bridge, or an entirely new bridge altogether.
An alternative would remove the existing eastbound and westbound Bay Bridge spans and replace them with two new bridge spans. The new bridge spans would be constructed near the location of the existing bridge spans. Ongoing studies will determine the exact location of any new bridge.
An open house is being held in person at Broadneck High School in Anne Arundel County at 6 p.m. Monday. Another session will take place at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11 at Kent Island High School in Queen Anne’s County.
Construction is anticipated to start around 2032, allowing ample time to determine the best solution to improve efficiency and provide solutions for transportation issues.
