Dr. Susan Spangler of the Department of English at the State University of New York at Fredonia has been awarded the FACT2 Excellence Award Excellence in Instruction at State Operated or Statutory Campus.
The SUNY award is designed to confer system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement. Three awards are given each year – for community colleges, research institutions and comprehensive institutions. Previous recipients from SUNY Fredonia are Director of Online Learning Lisa Melohusky and Dr. Kathleen Gradel, who is interim director of Sponsored Programs.
Dr. Spangler is coordinator of English Education for the department. She was nominated for the award by Melohusky and Department of English Chair KimMarie Cole.
The SUNY Faculty Advisory Council on Teaching and Technology (FACT2), an advisory body to the SUNY Provost, has grown for nearly three decades to become a well-established organization that fosters collaboration and consensus among the SUNY campuses.
The award underscores SUNY’s commitment to the use of technology to increase access to superior education, to expand the boundaries of knowledge, and to serve the public good. Through the awards, SUNY publicly proclaims its pride in the accomplishment and personal dedication of its full and part-time Instructional Faculty, Technology Support Professionals and SUNY Administrators who have demonstrated superior leadership skills working individually or in partnership with others to incorporate new or existing technology in ways that enhance the curriculum and engage students using methods and strategies that are scalable and transferrable to other settings.
Winners received free registration to attend the SUNY Conference on Instruction & Technology (CIT) at the State University at Buffalo on May 21 to 24. Recipients were also invited to present their accomplishments at a session during the conference.
CIT is the premiere SUNY-powered event that promotes conversations about instructional technology in education and creates a place for sharing and networking among colleagues throughout the SUNY system.
