Princeton Shopping Center Plans To Change Signage

PRINCETON, NJ – Princeton Shopping Center is seeking major site plan approval with variances from the Planning Board, to change signage.

The application will be heard by the Planning Board on Thursday.

Princeton (Edens) LLC, owner of the Shopping Center, has filed for preliminary and final major site plan approval with requests for 33 variances to construct 24 façade-mounted signs on shopping center buildings, three freestanding directory signs adjacent to the center’s ring road, and one freestanding center identification sign along North Harrison Street, at the Shopping Center.

This major site plan application does not involve any improvements outside of signage.

According to a memo by Planning Director Justin Lesko, in 2021, the Planning Board approved a minor subdivision and major site plan application to allow relocation of the Walgreens from Building D and the construction of the Avalon Princeton on Harrison apartment building in its place.

“A new façade and signage scheme was approved as part of this application for the end of the Building D near where the Walgreens portion was demolished. In 2023, the Board approved, through the Site Plan Committee, a minor site plan application to allow for the remainder of Building D to be renovated to match the new façade and signage scheme,” Lesko said.

“Since then, the applicant also received administrative waiver approval for façade improvements at buildings B, C, E and F to match Building D’s new look. The improvements are nearing completion and required the applicant to remove all existing signage.”

The improvements include mostly white facades with black features, including the shopping center’s distinctive awning. They intend to replace all of the façade signage at these buildings.
