Prince William man arrested after shooting at Lake of the Woods shopping center

A Prince William County man faces drug, gun and public intoxication charges after a shooting at the Market Place at Lake of the Woods shopping center in Orange County which sent the area’s businesses into lockdown last Tuesday.

Termarkus Cromwell, a 29-year-old resident of Triangle, has been charged with possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance, reckless handling of a firearm, unlawful shooting in an occupied motor vehicle and public intoxication.

Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the parking lot of the Market Place at Lake of the Woods Burger King around 8:28 p.m. last Tuesday. Within minutes of being dispatched to the scene off Germanna Highway, they located Cromwell and his vehicle and took the man into custody, the sheriff’s office reported.

“A search of the vehicle was conducted, and the firearm used was located along with a baggie of suspected cocaine and packaging materials,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Many of the businesses in the surrounding shopping center went into lockdown after the first shots rang out, the sheriff’s office said.

“A perimeter was created around the area and neighboring businesses were cleared of any possible threats,” the statement reads. “We appreciate their concern of the situation and willingness to act immediately.”

There were no injuries reported from the scene Tuesday.

Cromwell remains in custody at Central Virginia Regional Jail in Orange without bond.
