CLARKSTON – The Port of Clarkston has successfully completed its third fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) high-speed internet infrastructure project in Asotin County. This initiative, focused on the Census Tract 9604 Service Area, spans the region south of Poplar Street, north of Libby Street, and between 13th and 17th Streets. Approximately 800 households in the area now have access to internet speeds of up to 100 megabits per second, depending on their selected plans.
The construction contract was awarded to Summit Utility Contractors, LLC, based in Lewiston, Idaho, with physical completion of the project achieved on January 21, 2025. Internet services began on January 22, 2025, provided by participating Internet Service Providers (ISPs) Airbridge Broadband, First Step Internet, Inland Cellular, Intermax Networks, and Rodeo Networks. These ISPs lease the fiber infrastructure from the Port to deliver high-speed upload and download capabilities to customers.
The project was funded by a $2,444,381 grant from the Washington State Public Works Board, supported by the U.S. Department of the Treasury through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Asotin County contributed $100,000 under the ARPA State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, with an additional $252,602 provided by the Port as a matching contribution.
This open-access project builds on the Port of Clarkston’s efforts to expand broadband access in the region since 2013. Over the past 12 years, the Port has installed 26 miles of broadband infrastructure backbone, connected 22 anchor institutions, and enabled fiber internet for 2,342 residents and businesses.
The Port recognizes the vital role of community partnerships, including the Asotin County Broadband Action Team (ACBAT), in the success of this project. These collaborations reflect the Port’s mission to foster private investment, enhance financial well-being, support family-wage jobs, and improve the quality of life for the citizens of Asotin County.
