Radio host Charlamagne Tha God laughed at Lara Trump for claiming that she’s never heard her father-in-law say a “racist” thing.
Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee and daughter-in-law of former President Trump, appeared on Monday’s episode of “The Breakfast Club” radio show. She was pressed by co-host DJ Envy to respond to those who believe the former president is “racist.”
Lara Trump quickly labeled the accusations as “ridiculous” and dismissed the racial discrimination lawsuit brought against Trump’s real estate business in the 1970s. She also defended Trump’s decision at the time to take out a full-page ad in The New York Times referencing Central Park Five in 1989.
She then doubled down on her defense of her father-in-law before Charlamagne started to laugh.
“You have to look at somebody and what they actually have done. And Donald Trump really was very beneficial to the Black community when he was in the White House, I will say I’ve never seen this man say a racist thing. I think the attacks are fairly—,” she said before Charlamagne started laughing.
“Why is that funny Charlamagne?” she asked.
“It’s hysterical. But, I mean, people act like there’s no such thing as Google or we don’t have TV, radio…” Charlamagne replied.
Lara Trump then asked him to specify an example of Trump saying something racist. The show then cut to a series of Trump’s remarks, including him calling Mexicans crossing the border “rapists” and referring to Haiti and African nations as “s—hole countries.”
Lara Trump continued to try and defend the former president, claiming that it’s “a traditional talking point to attack Republicans, to call them racist.”
“That is the constant knee jerk is ‘Donald Trump is a racist. Donald Trump is a racist.’ I can tell you. He wants every person to be successful who work for every American equally. He did that the first term when he was president, and he’ll do it again,” she said.
When asked about how can people ignore Trump’s “dangerous” rhetoric toward Haitians, Mexicans and Muslims, Lara Trump argued that the former president’s comments get “misconstrued” and reiterated that he is firmly against illegal immigration.
Her comments come as Trump’s rhetoric has only escalated in recent weeks. It also comes after Vice President Harris sat for an interview with Charlamagne, who has signaled his support for the Democratic ticket.
