PLDT to work with MMDA to protect cable infrastructure – Back End News

Must read

Integrated telco network PLDT has joined forces with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to protect telecommunications infrastructure during road construction and excavation activities.

“PLDT is collaborating more closely with the MMDA and its acting chair Atty Don Artes to ensure that fiber optic cables are not accidentally damaged during road works,” said Atty. Joan De Venecia-Fabul, FVP, deputy chief legal counsel, and head of Regulatory and Strategic Affairs, PLDT.

Accidental fiber cuts due to construction works are a significant cause of service interruptions, impacting subscribers.

“We look forward to working hand-in-hand with MMDA and the government in crafting protocols for prior coordination and alignment before excavation permits are issued and diggings are done to ensure that service interruptions due to accidental damage to telco cables are avoided,” said De Venecia-Fabul.

This initiative aligns with PLDT’s ongoing partnership with government and industry stakeholders to safeguard telecommunications infrastructure and equipment, ensuring continuous service delivery and enhancing customer experience.

In addition to the MMDA collaboration, PLDT and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc (Smart) have been actively working with the Anti-Red Tape Authority, local government units, and other government agencies to streamline the permitting process, expediting the rollout of telecommunications infrastructure nationwide.
