Pixel 9 Series Launch Leaks: Search leader Google will launch the Pixel 9 series next month in India. And similar to the Apple iPhone 14 series, the models could get satellite connectivity with the arrival of Android 15. The upcoming software could let apps know when a smartphone connects to a satellite.
Android phone manufacturers may have to partner with satellite carriers to provide the service. Spotted by Android Authority in Android 15 beta 4, the connectivity feature may be named ‘Pixel Satellite SOS’ and could be free for two years on eligible Pixel devices. The code strings hint Google could follow Apple’s path and allow a similar timeframe for free use.
As per the report, Pixel smartphones may support the feature via an update. “Your Pixel has been updated to support satellite communication,” the code string noted. However, the string may denote an update before the feature is live. As the upcoming Pixel lineup will likely launch with Android 15, it could support satellite connectivity out of the box.
