Pixel 9 Pro Specs Highlight Advanced Display Technology

Must read

Google’s next-generation Pixel 9 family is expected to bring the latest AI software to consumers, but it will also push the envelope regarding hardware. Now, it looks like the future is bright for an upgraded Pixel.

A new report from South Korean publication ETNews points to Google using Samsung’s latest display technology for the upcoming Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro smartphones.

Samsung’s premium Galaxy S24 Ultra uses the company’s M13 series. The next Pixels will get an upgrade and use the M14 series. Its key selling points include a higher peak brightness level and a longer lifespan.

While not specifically called out, this likely uses the new dual-stack tandem technique in the OLED panel. This uses two light-emitting panels that sit on top of each other. The two panels individually put out lower levels of light, but in combination they offer a brighter panel. This allows the panels to run more efficiently, and the panel’s rate of degradation is reduced.

These panels are starting to become available. Honor’s luxury “Porsche Design” edition of the Honor Magic6 Pro, launched in May, is one of the first smartphones to offer a dual-stacked display. Apple is using the technology in the latest iPad Pro tablets.

With the Pixel 9 family expected to debut in mid-August, Google’s next flagship could be the first mainstream smartphone to ship these innovative displays.

Now read how the Pixel’s use of AI can lead the way for the smartphone industry…
