OpenAI, the artificial intelligence (AI) company, could soon make its mark in the world of robotics. As reported by The Information, OpenAI plans to enter the humanoid robot sector. Reportedly, the company has been in discussions about bringing humanoid robots. Let’s have a look at what big plans it has ahead of 2024.
OpenAI to bring humanoid robot
Until 2021 OpenAI had a specific division for robots. However, it had to shut down the division as it decided to focus more on artificial intelligence software. The confirmation was made by Wojciech Zaremba, the leader of that division during that time. He announced in a podcast that the team gave up on it because they couldn’t train something according to the desired intelligence level.
But now back to 2024, the company again plans to make a fresh start and step into this sector. Some other reports suggest that OpenAI also aims to collaborate with TSMC and Broadcom. The aim is to develop their first in-house chip to support its artificial intelligence systems.
The future plans
Looking forward,OpenAI has also been investing in robotic startups. The list includes Physical Intelligence, Figure AI and 1X Technologies. These startups have been working on building humanoid robots and developing artificial general intelligence or AGI.
In addition to this, OpenAI is also planning to develop its reasoning model and an AI agent. These will be designed to ‘help automate all manner of software engineering and analysis tasks’. However, as of now no official announcement has been made about these plans.
Well, OpenAI is not the only one to make its mark in the humanoid robot space. Already there are other players existing. For example, you have the Tesla Bot named Optimus, and Atlas by Boston Dynamics. Looks like OpenAI also wants to enter the market and compete in this space.
