One of New Jersey’s biggest shopping centers will hold its first indoor 5K.
For the Feb. 23 event, Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus plans to transform into a professional, climate-controlled racecourse for runners and walkers.
The officially timed 5K is limited to 300 participants. The course will consist of seven laps around the mall’s second level.
The top three male and female finishers will receive prizes. All registrants will receive a free commemorative T-shirt and medal for completing the course. All participants will also get exclusive swag, as well as shopping and dining perks courtesy of select businesses at Westfield Garden State Plaza that can be redeemed during the week immediately following race day.
Since retail is not allowed Sundays under Bergen County’s Blue Laws, Westfield Garden State Plaza sought to make use of the space by giving the public “a rare opportunity” to navigate the mall while stores remain closed.

Wesley Rebisz, senior general manager at Westfield Garden State Plaza, said, “Our first-ever indoor 5K offers a fun, new way for visitors to enjoy Westfield Garden State Plaza on Sundays, alongside our wide selection of entertainment, dining, and the Food Court District, all open every Sunday.” He added, “Thank you to Racefaster for partnering with us and inspiring the community to prioritize health and wellness through this exciting event.”
The 5K runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. According to organizers, there is an entry fee of $45 plus a $4 sign-up fee.
According to a Westfield Garden State Plaza spokesperson, there is no age limit to race. However, the mall requires anyone 17 or younger to be accompanied by an adult.
