Oklahoma energy company gives significant funds to support OU engineering, energy, business colleges

Williams, an Oklahoma-based energy company, gave a significant gift to the University of Oklahoma to support the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy, the Gallogly College of Engineering and the Price College of Business.   

“Williams is investing in the workforce of tomorrow through this gift to the University of Oklahoma, a respected leader in curriculum for energy and related emerging technologies,” wrote Williams President and CEO Alan Armstrong in a press release.

The Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy will receive a gift of around $500,000 to their new Sustainable Energy Systems program, which will offer a new Geoenergy Engineering degree.

The Gallogly College of Engineering will receive $680,000 will fund mentorship and development programs including the Engineering Catalyst program and the Wayfinding Program. These programs focus on giving Gallogly students support and community.

“This remarkable gift will expand so many resources for engineering students, offering them critical academic and community support that is sometimes the only thing standing between a student and a decision not to return to school,” John Klier, dean of the Gallogly College of Engineering, wrote in the press release.

The gift of $320,000 to Price College of Business will support the Dean’s Speaker Series, the JCPenney Leadership Program, the Center for Management Information Systems Studies and other programs that give students the opportunity to build connections and grow in industry knowledge to be better prepared in their future fields. 

“Williams has had a tremendous impact on our students here at OU, where their gift will have far-reaching effects and impact countless students in the years to come,” wrote OU Senior Vice President and Provost André-Denis Wright in the press release. “As OU’s student population grows, the support of key partners like Williams allows us to expand our programs on the Norman and Tulsa campuses and provide our students with the best that OU can offer.”
