Here’s how murder laws in Ohio work | Video
Ohio does not have a first-degree murder charge. Here’s a look at how someone can be charged with murder – or manslaughter – in Ohio.
A man who admitted to shooting a woman in the parking lot of a Blendon Township shopping center has been sentenced.
Rodney Perry, 30, pleaded guilty to murder, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence in the Jan. 10, 2023, shooting of 24-year-old Amara Jones.
Franklin County Judge Karen Held Phipps sentenced Perry to life in prison without the possibility of parole for at least 18 years.
On Jan. 10, 2023, Perry shot Jones in the parking lot of the Sunbury Plaza shopping center on South Sunbury Road. Blendon Township police found Jones inside a car around 5:50 p.m. that evening.
Perry told a woman he knew and 911 dispatchers that he had shot Jones.
Perry fled and was arrested about eight hours later in an area 30 miles northeast of Charlotte, North Carolina.
