A burglar that carried out a “series of raids” on businesses in a city centre has been jailed.

Police said Adrian Perry was spotted at the West End Arcade in Nottingham at 01:45 GMT on Tuesday, and tried to flee the scene by climbing up a ladder but was handcuffed by officers.

The force said the 56 year-old had smashed his way into one of the businesses at the arcade and broken the till, with detectives later linking him to two other break-ins.

Perry, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, where he was jailed for a total of one year and six weeks.

Police said Perry used a brick to smash his way into the Mist Rolling Inn on Derby Road before stealing bottles of spirits and was also captured on CCTV breaking into a homeware shop on the same street on 21 January.

Perry also admitted threatening behaviour following an incident at a supermarket in Carlton Street the same day.

Officers said he confronted a member of staff who was opening up at the store and threatened to attack them.
