MISHAWAK, Ind. (WNDU) – Kids from the Pokagon tribal community and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Northern Indiana Corridor got the chance to do some holiday shopping with some of the Notre Dame football players.

Before heading to Meijer on Grape Road in Mishawaka, kids headed to Notre Dame’s campus to meet with head coach Marcus Freeman and players before shopping.

At the store, each child was paired with a player and was gifted a $150 gift card to shop for holiday gifts.

“It means everything,” said junior offensive tackle Aamil Wagner. “Here at Notre Dame, we are not just student-athletes. We’re members of the community. So, the opportunity to get here and be on the ground and just spending the day with kids and be on the ground with them, talk to them, learning a little bit about them, it means so much and just warms our hearts.”

The shop with a player event is a way for local youth to interact with role models while experiencing the joy of the holiday season.
