Bweeng National School pupils will soon get to enjoy the benefits of an artificial playing pitch, after the planning permission was granted for its construction on the school grounds.

The Board of Management of Bweeng National School, located near Mallow, applied for permission to construct the playing pitch, with flood-lighting and a perimeter fence, in September of last year.

According to a further information document submitted by the Board of Management during the planning process, local clubs like Lombardstown Tennis Club, Mallow Rugby Club, Kilshannig Ladies Football Club and Blackwater Blazers also gave an undertaking to use the pitch outside of school hours.

Cork County Council awarded planning permission for the facility on May 21.

The pitch will be built just to the west of the school and will be used until 9pm Monday to Friday.
