No sales tax, plus special discounts: Best Ohio Sales Tax Holiday deals through Aug. 8

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohioans have an opportunity to stack savings on top of savings as the state’s 5.75% sales tax is waived and retailers are taking this chance to offer special sales to compete for customers. Ohio’s 10-day sales tax holiday runs until Thursday, Aug. 8 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. This year, the sales tax holiday expands beyond school supplies.

Say you live in Cuyahoga County; you will save $8 on every $100 spent on eligible items. This is based on the state’s sales tax rate and the county’s 2.25% sales tax rate.

Below is a roundup of the best special sales going on during the tax-free holiday.

Ohioans can shop both in-store and online and purchase clothing, shoes, electronics, accessories, home goods and more.

The state says “all tangible personal property that is $500 or less” qualify for the sales tax holiday. There are some products that are not included, like alcohol, tobacco, vapor and products that contain marijuana, according to the Ohio Department of Taxation. Ohio has had a summer sales tax holiday since 2015. State lawmakers expanded it in the 2023 state budget.

The state previously provided the sales tax holiday in August to help families buy school supplies and clothing. With the expansion of the holiday, more doors open for big-name retailers to provide not only tax-free items but sales on top of that.

Walmart

Walmart is still holding its Summer Savings event. So not only are you getting a steal on products, but you’re saving more from not having to pay sales tax.
