New Jersey American Water is kicking off a total of $16.5 million in infrastructure projects in Monmouth County this winter.

Howell: $1.5 million

The Camden-based utility company is installing approximately 1,200 feet of new wastewater main along Yellowbrook Road from Charleston Street to its Yellowbrook Water Treatment Plant, which will also receive a new pump station and force main.

Contractor Shorelands Construction began the Howell work in late January and expects to complete the project by mid-March.

Yellowbrook Road will close to through traffic from Cranberry Road to Adelphia Farmingdale Road (County Route 524) for about the first four weeks of the project, NJ American Water said in a Feb. 6 announcement.

Long Branch: $15 million

NJ American Water will also replace approximately 18,000 feet of aging water main in Long Branch. Weather permitting, contractor Montana Construction will begin work the week of Feb. 10.

Originally installed in the 1920s and 1950s, the project will upgrade existing pipes to ductile iron main to improve service and increase water flow, the Camden-based utility said in a Feb. 5 announcement.

In addition, meter pits will be installed where needed, and crews will look for any lead or galvanized service lines for replacement.

“This investment is part of our continued commitment to upgrading critical water infrastructure and improving service reliability,” Joseph Meyer, senior manager of field operations at NJ American Water, said in a statement.
