Niceville receives $396,000 from state for military infrastructure projects

NICEVILLE — FloridaCommerce announced on Tuesday that the state awarded nearly $400,000 to the Niceville to support infrastructure projects that impact military communities.

The grant, part of $7 million doled out statewide through the Defense Infrastructure Grant Program, which supports local infrastructure projects that positively impact military value by addressing encroachment, transportation, housing, utilities, communication, environment or security needs.

In Niceville, $396,800 was awarded to support the architectural and engineering phase of a proposed Cat-5+ 8,600-square-foot range fire station and a 3,500-square-foot Cat 5+ fire rescue emergency equipment storage facility.

“Governor DeSantis’ focus on military infrastructure continues to secure Florida’s position as the most military friendly state in the nation,” Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly said in a news release. “Today’s awards impact Florida military bases statewide, bolstering their surrounding communities for generations to come.”

More than $21.2 million in grants have been awarded to military communities through the Defense Infrastructure Grant Program since 2019.
