NFL combine live updates: Shedeur Sanders confident in making a quick impact, Isaiah Bond eyes Xavier Worthy’s 40-yard dash record

Must read

The 2025 NFL scouting combine is here and with it, the official kickoff of the 2025 NFL Draft season.

The NFL invited 329 players to Indianapolis for the annual event, where players work out, teams get to interview them and coaches and front-office personnel from around the league address the media with the final recaps of the 2024 season and start looking ahead to 2025.

The Tennessee Titans have the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft. The last time they picked first was in 1978, when they — then the Houston Oilers — selected Heisman Trophy-winning running back and eventual Pro Football Hall of Famer Earl Campbell. This season’s Heisman winner, Travis Hunter, will be in Indianapolis. The two-way superstar is listed as a cornerback, but may work out with the defensive backs and wide receivers, should he take the field.

The top running back in this class has already decided he won’t be working out, with Ashton Jeanty reportedly making that decision at the beginning of the week.

  • Hairston’s 4.28 leads all 40 times

Kentucky’s Maxwell Hairston finished No. 1 among CBs in the 40-yard dash.

Also of note, projected first rounder, Jahdae Barron of Texas, ran a very impressive 4.39.

  • Rams, OT Alaric Jackson agree to 3-year, $57 million deal

Shortly after the Rams worked out an agreement with quarterback Matthew Stafford, the team is bringing back his left tackle, as well.

Alaric Jackson has agreed to a three-year, $57 million deal with $35 million guaranteed, reports ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Jackson, 26, is entering his fifth NFL season. He signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa in 2021 and became a starter in 2023, beginning at right guard then moving to left tackle.

  • QB Desmond Ridder an unrestricted free agent, after Raiders don’t tender offer

Desmond Ridder’s time with the Raiders is finished after one season. The team decided not to tender him an offer, making him an unrestricted free agent, reports NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Ridder, 25, appeared in six games for the Raiders last season, starting one. He completed 61.2% of his passes for 458 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. In three NFL seasons, Ridder has thrown for 4,002 yards on 63.6% completions with 16 TDs and 14 INTs.

  • Matthew Stafford agrees to restructured deal with Rams

After rumors of Matthew Stafford exploring trades to the Raiders and Giants, the 16-year veteran quarterback is staying with the Rams.

Stafford and the Rams agreed to a restructured deal on Friday, according to reports. Terms have not yet been announced.

Now that Stafford is staying in L.A., the Raiders and Giants will have to look elsewhere. The Giants may now focus their attention on Aaron Rodgers.

  • DBs run scorching 40s

Day 2 workouts are underway, and some prospects are already lighting it up in the 40-yard dash.

Kentucky’s Maxwell Hairston and Iowa State’s Darien Porter both ran unofficial times of 4.30.

  • Texas WR Isaiah Bond says he will break Xavier Worthy’s 40-yard dash time

Worthy posted a time of 4.21 seconds last year. Bond will have his opportunity to best the now-Chiefs WR on Saturday.

“I’m going to break the record tomorrow for sure,” Bond told reporters. “I anticipate running 4.20 or possibly, if I’m feeling great, I might run a 4.1.”

  • Miami QB Cam Ward won’t throw at combine, but will interview with teams

“I think my five years of film shows everything I can do,” Ward said. “Me throwing here at the combine is not going to move the needle in any way.”

  • Miami QB Cam Ward likes what Giants have on defense and in WR Malik Nabers

  • Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders confident he can make an impact in the NFL

  • Matthew Stafford’s future could clear up very soon

  • Top LB 40 times are in

UCLA’s Kain Medrano comes in with the fastest 40 time of the day among linebacker prospects, at 4.46.

Alabama’s Jihaad Campbell and Oklahoma’s Danny Stutsman both had strong overall workouts for the day.

  • Jihaad Campbell clocks head-turning 40 time

The Alabama LB prospect (projected 17th in Yahoo mock draft) checks in with an unofficial 4.52 40.

Here’s what Yahoo’s Nate Tice had to say about him coming into this week.

  • James Pearce officially the fastest 40 of the day among DLs

  • Top EDGE prospects show out

Tennessee’s James Pearce Jr.’s unofficial 4.47-second 40-yard dash is the fastest so far among DL prospects.

    He’s a potential first-round pick.

And Texas A&M’s Shemar Stewart (projected 15th overall by Yahoo) is also having a good combine with a 4.59 40-yard dash and 40-inch vertical.

  • Big men with speed at the combine

Today, the defensive linemen and linebackers are working out at the NFL scouting combine. Seven d-linemen have run the 40-yard dash under 5 seconds. The leader: Nebraska’s Ty Robinson.

  • Oregon DL Derrick Harmon has impressive 40-yard dash

Oregon’s Derrick Harmon is the No. 12 pick in Yahoo Sports’ recent NFL mock draft from analysts Nate Tice and Charles McDonald. Perhaps this explains why he’s a rising star in this draft class:

  • Remember when Kevin O’Connell was at the combine as a prospect?

Nice callback from the NFL Network in remembering Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell putting in that work back in the day.

  • Travis Hunter on returning punts/kicks: ‘I’ve already got two jobs’

The Heisman Trophy winner can do it all, but he wants to keep the main thing(s) the main thing(s)

  • Penn State DE Abdul Carter has stress reaction in foot, will not need surgery

Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter, believed to be among the candidates to go first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, has a stress reaction in his right foot but will not need surgery, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“I couldn’t be more confident that this will be a non-factor where he’s drafted,” Carter’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said. “He will put on a show at his pro day.”

Carter will still participate in Penn State’s pro day on March 28.
