Newk’s Eatery is expanding to New Orleans metro with a new restaurant on the northshore

A vacant Mandeville storefront that has been home to several different restaurants over the past decade will become the new home of a Newk’s Eatery, the national chain’s first location in the competitive New Orleans metro restaurant market.

Newk’s will open next spring in a 5,500-square-foot corner spot in The Village Shopping Center on U.S. 190 in Mandeville, said Rhonda Sharkawy, an agent with Stirling Properties. The restaurant also has a 785-square-foot patio, she said.

Started in Oxford, Mississippi, in 2004, Newk’s has grown to more than 100 locations across 13 states. It serves casual fare, including a host of salads, sandwiches and pizza. The company’s headquarters are in Jackson, Mississippi.

Sentinal Capital Partners sold Newk’s in 2023 to FSC Franchise Co., parent company of Beef O’Brady’s and Brass Tap.

Newk’s has locations in Baton Rouge, Lafayette and the Shreveport and Monroe areas, but none in the New Orleans metro area.

The Mandeville spot has been empty since last year, when Felix’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar closed its only northshore location. Felix’s had opened the Mandeville restaurant in late 2019.

Felix’s was the latest in a long run of restaurants at the location. N’Tini’s, a Chalmette transplant following Hurricane Katrina, enjoyed a prosperous Mandeville run after opening there 2007, and, for a short period in 2017 was home to Due North by Legacy Kitchen. Prior to N’Tini’s in 2007, the location was home to Rockafeller’s Steakhouse.
