Mentor Director of Economic Development and International Trade Kevin Malecek looked back at the influx of new businesses that opened in 2024 as welcome additions to a wide variety of offerings in the city for residents and visitors.
“As we do every year, the city of Mentor welcomed a variety of new businesses in 2024 to add to its already diverse array of retailers, restaurants, manufacturing and industrial outfits and office tenants,” Malecek said.
He specifically cited the restaurant scene, as Jackpot Street Food found a brick-and-mortar location in a former bakery site on Mentor Avenue, Savoria Bar and Grill breathed new life into the on-site restaurant at the Holiday Inn Mentor and Federales Street Tacos brought a well-received Mexican concept to the Old Village area.
As for new retailers and industry, Malecek added “Ken Ganley Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram was able to redevelop the former Mitsubishi site into a state-of-the-art car dealership on Mentor Avenue, while Mentor also saw Irby and Goodman/Daikon quickly occupy a 125,000-square foot spec building in the Mentor Innovation and Technology Park site off Hamilton and Mercantile, which should usher in other uses into that industrial park with another 40 to 50 prime acreage remaining to develop for industrial, distribution, or manufacturing uses.”
The city also welcomed UK-based business Bloc Digital this year as a direct result of Mentor’s International Trade Initiative, and they have nearly doubled their employee count since opening their office at the end of January and become of integral partner of several global companies in the Northeast Ohio region.
These new businesses along with many other that arrived over the past month have kept vacancy numbers in the city very low.
“Our vacancy rates throughout the city of Mentor and in various sectors also remain low, with rates in the industrial, commercial, office and retail spaces all in the mid-to-low single digits,” Malcek said. “Overall, the city of Mentor continues to have a vibrant economic in many different sectors, with some additional growth opportunities slated for 2025.”
