NEWTOWN, PA — The Village at Newtown is about to get a lot busier with a handful of new businesses scheduled to open or coming soon.
The biggest space, at 8,000-square-feet, is the new home of Capital Grill scheduled to open on Monday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m. Reservations are now being taken by the fine dining, upscale restaurant.
When it opens, the 230-seat exclusive upscale fine dining restaurant and steakhouse will be Capital Grille’s first in Bucks County and the fourth in Pennsylvania. The Capital Grille’s other locations are in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and King of Prussia.

The Capital Grille at the Village at Newtown Shopping Center will open on Monday at 4 p.m.
Two other eateries slated for the shopping center are awaiting conditional use approval by the board of supervisors. That could come as earlier as the board’s Sept. 11 meeting.

Flourish Cafe, which has a location at the nearby Village Shires Shopping Center on Buck Road in Northampton Township, is seeking conditional use approval to open a second location at the village.
The proposed “European style” restaurant would occupy approximately 3,210 square feet inside the former KO Korean Restaurant next to the Capital Grille.
In July, the township’s planning commission voted unanimously to recommend granting conditional use approval for the new eatery. The application will now be considered by the board of supervisors, which is expected to approve the request.
Flourish has built a five-star reputation for its made from scratch food and baked goods from Eastern Europe including its breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings.
The cafe serves an extensive breakfast menu featuring fresh fruit crepes, potato pancakes, waffles, oatmeal porridge and syrniki (fried Eastern Slavic curd cheese pancakes).
A sampling of its main courses range from salmon steak, mozzarella stuffed chicken breast and signature rigatoni to Kyiv-style chicken, rabbit stewed and Bronzino steak. The BYOB cafe also offers an extensive selection of appetizers, soups, salads and desserts.
Another eatery waiting in the wings is Love & Honey Fried Chicken.
At its August meeting, the Newtown Township Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend conditional use approval for the Fishtown-based chicken takeout business.
The shop would be among the first suburban franchise locations of the Philadelphia eatery.
Pending final approval of the board of supervisors, the fried chicken eatery is planning to set up shop at the McCaffrey’s side of the shopping center.
The new eatery will predominantly be a call in and takeout service although there will be a limited amount of indoor seating provided, land use attorney Ed Murphy told the planners.
Rated as the best fried chicken restaurant in Philadelphia in 2018, the eatery is known for its hand breaded fried chicken sandwiches, its chicken tenders, chicken and waffles, 10 pack of dark meat, drumsticks, thighs, tater tots, wings, cornbread muffins, pimento cheese dip, and house made sauces.
Also is the planning stages for the village is a new Pilates studio looking to open at the former site of the Newtown Book Store.
Owner Kimberly Patton will be seeking conditional use approval from the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors to open Bodyrok Newtown next to Turning Point.
The facility would operate from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a maximum class size of 14. Under the township’s ordinance, the use is considered an athletic facility, which requires conditional use approval by the township.
The township’s planning commission in early August voted unanimously to recommend approval while expressing gratitude that it’s not another restaurant.
Bodyrok is a national franchise that takes a traditional reformer workout and turns it up a notch by adding strength training exercises and high-energy music to keep the heart rate up the entire 45-minute class.
“Our method includes a greater variety of exercises, longer segments, and quicker transitions, resulting in a more intense, sweat-fueled fast-paced Pilates workout,” says its website.
The new studio will feature a workout area, lockers, rest room, a retail shop, water station, grooming products and free wi-fi.
If approved, the new studios and restaurants will join Santander Bank, which recently opened at the village after relocating its local branch from the Newtown Business Commons. Its new branch is located at the former site of Barre3, which relocated to the Summit Square Shopping Center.
