MYSTIC, CT (WFSB) – The National Retail Federation stated this weekend had more in-person shoppers than online compared to last year’s season.
The shops at Mystic Village are decorated and ready for the influx of customers for the holidays.
Patricia Mainville owns The Rose boutique in Mystic.
“On the weekend there are a lot of tourists here, just like in the summer,” said Mainville.
Summer is the busiest time of year in the village, but the holiday season is a close second.
“We’ve been doing pretty good. There’s a lot of people,” Mainville said.
A new report from the NRF said this weekend more people shopped in-person than online compared to last year.
About 10 million less people shopped on the internet and nearly five million more were in stores, according to the NRF.
“I like to see people, talk to people, feel the merchandise, check sizes, make sure everything is just right,” said Liz Sargent from Albany, NY.
Leah and Chris Powell are visiting Mystic from Florida.
“I like to shop local, support local businesses. It’s just more personal that way,” explained Leah.
Chris disagreed with her opinion.
“It’s the convenience of not having to find a spot to park, not having to stand in line to check out. I can be on my laptop watching a football game and order whatever I need,” said Chris.
The NRF expects about 3% more holiday shoppers this year than last.
They also predict holiday spending between November and December to add up to nearly one trillion dollars.
