My Brother’s Keeper Tulsa Hosts ‘Tesla And Tech Day’ To Inspire Future Leaders In Technology

A Tulsa organization is holding an event this week to get more students interested in the tech field.

My Brother’s Keeper Tulsa is partnering with Tesla and Tulsa Innovation Labs to inspire and educate future leaders through tech and innovation.

MBK-Tulsa aims to close opportunity gaps for boys and young men of color to help them reach their full potential.

Joseph Onema with My Brother’s Keeper Tulsa says at Thursday’s ‘Tesla and Tech Day’ students will experience the company’s technology firsthand.

This includes hands-on with electric vehicles with a guided tour showcasing advanced technology.

Onema says students will also gain insight into various careers including tech, robotics, engineering, and programming. He says programs like these set the students up for the future.

“We work specifically with boys and men of color to make sure that those communities feel that they are empowered to seek out things that might be challenging, to see about things that might seem daunting because I don’t see another person that looks like in the space, but that might not mean that I can’t enter the space,” Onema said. “So, making it more attainable for them.”

The event is taking place Thursday, October 17 at Leadership Tulsa from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
