LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. – A Lehigh Valley native and successful shopping center developer has passed away.
Murray H. Goodman died at the age of 99 according to an obituary published December 23.
Goodman was born in Bethlehem and graduated from Lehigh University in 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
He received an Honorary Degree from Lehigh University in 1988 and was a Hall of Fame inductee in 1999.
Goodman was named a trustee of Lehigh University and established the Dean of Athletics Chair and the Murray H. Goodman Basketball Coaching Endowment Fund.
The Murray H. Goodman Football Stadium at Lehigh is named in his honor as well as the Goodman Center for Real Estate Studies. Goodman was honorary chairman of the $500 million gift program to Lehigh University in 1995.
Goodman was active in developing over 25 million square feet of retail and office properties throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Florida and Virginia for over 50 years.
Notable assets of the Goodman Company in our region include shopping destinations such as the Berkshire Mall, Coventry Mall and Crest Plaza.
Mr. Goodman is survived by his wife and five children and has resided in Palm Beach, Florida from 1972 until his death.
