Today’s MSSP Alert Market News:

1. MSSP Acquired: PDI Technologies announced that it has acquired MSSP Nuspire. This acquisition is the first expansion by M&A for the PDI Security Solutions business since the company launched its cybersecurity and managed network services business segment in 2020. In addition to providing a wide range of cybersecurity services for convenience stores and gas stations, PDI helps to reduce network complexity and enhance security for quick-service restaurants (QSRs), fast casual dining and other restaurant and specialty retail locations, the company said. Nuspire delivers managed security services (MSS), managed detection and response (MDR), endpoint detection and response (EDR) and consulting solutions.

2. Security Platform Debuts: Abstract Security has brought to market its AI-Powered Data Streaming Platform for Security. Abstract’s platform helps security analysts and operations teams navigate the complexities of data pipelines, increase security effectiveness and lower costs, the company said. A key feature of the platform is the Abstract Security Engineer (ASE), which uses a combination of AI, expert systems, machine learning and subject matter expertise and connects to data sources across an organization, delivering instant data and detection capabilities. 

3. Leadership Move: Astreya, a managed IT and service technology solutions specialist, has appointed Romil Bahl as chief executive officer. In mutual agreement with the Board of Directors of Astreya Partners, Inc., Andrea Bendzick has stepped down as president and chief executive officer of the company.

4. Leadership Move: Enzoic, a specialist in cybersecurity credential screening and dark web intelligence, has named Kristen Ranta Haikal Wilson as its new chief executive officer. With more than 25 years in software and technology, Wilson assumes the role from Michael Greene, who remains involved with the company in an advisory capacity and as a board member. Wilson, a co-founder of Enzoic, served in various roles including product management, marketing, sales and operations. Over the course of her career, she has held leadership positions at prominent tech firms including CA Technologies, Rally Software and Oracle.

5. CISA Releases Security Guidance for SMBs: The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has released Barriers to Single Sign-On (SSO) Adoption for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses: Identifying Challenges and Opportunities, a detailed report exploring challenges to SSO adoption by small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The report also identifies potential ways to overcome these challenges and improve an SMB’s level of security. CISA also released a related blog post, Why SMBs Don’t Deploy Single Sign-On (SSO), urging software manufacturers to consider how their business practices may inadvertently reduce the security posture of their customers.

6. U.S. Charges Cybercrime Group: A federal indictment was unsealed on June 21 charged four Vietnamese nationals for their involvement in a series of computer intrusions that caused victim companies to collectively suffer more than $71 million in losses, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced. According to the indictment, Ta Van Tai, aka “Quynh Hoa,” aka “Bich Thuy;” Nguyen Viet Quoc, aka “Tien Nguyen;” Nguyen Trang Xuyen; and Nguyen Van Truong, aka “Chung Nguyen,” were members of a sophisticated international cybercrime group known as “FIN9.” From at least May 2018 through October 2021, the defendants allegedly hacked the computer networks of victim companies throughout the United States and used their access to steal or attempt to steal non-public information, employee benefits, and funds. The defendants allegedly caused their victims to suffer more than $71 million in losses.

7. Report Finds Threats OT Organizations Increasing: Fortinet, the global cybersecurity company, has released the findings from its global 2024 State of Operational Technology and Cybersecurity Report. Report shows that while OT organizations are making progress in strengthening their security posture, teams still face significant challenges in securing converged IT/OT environments. In 2023, 49% of respondents experienced an intrusion that impacted either OT systems only or both IT and OT systems. But this year, nearly three-fourths (73%) of organizations are being impacted.

8. SASE Partnership: Tata Communications has launched its Unified/ Single-Vendor Hosted Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) for global enterprises. In partnership with Versa Networks, a specialist in AI-powered Unified SASE, Tata Communications Hosted SASE converges software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN) and secure service edge (SSE) capabilities in a single pass technology. This capability enables businesses to harness the power of cloud-based environments through exceptional performance, zero-trust security, ease of use and cost effectiveness, the company said.
