The Monet Richardson Community Foundation is excited to announce the date for their highly anticipated Backpack Program shopping and assembly in 2024. The annual event will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2024, bringing together the local community to support a noble cause.

Executive Director Pat Richardson said: “As Krissy’s mother I am honored to continue her legacy of work especially as it relates to the backpack program which she so modestly started. Krissy saw a need in the community via the YMCA Chapel Hill-Carrboro Y-Learning Program and she decided to do something about it. How many of us can say we do this? I know I haven’t always so I am honored to step into these large shoes and continue the work she started. We celebrate 3 years for this community event and look forward to many more to come.”

Each year, the Backpack Program has been a tremendous success drawing participants from all walks of life, including community supporters, students, families, businesses, and dedicated volunteers. MRCF aims to unite the community and create a positive impact by raising awareness and rallying support for youth in our area. Registration is currently open for volunteers, offering a wide array of volunteer opportunities. Backpack shopping is scheduled from 12-3:00 pm at Target located at 8210 Renaissance Parkway, Durham, NC. Subsequently, backpack assembly will be held at the YMCA Chapel Hill Carrboro from 4-7 pm.

MRCF would like to thank their sponsors, volunteers, and the community for their unwavering support over the years. Contributions have made a significant impact on the lives of children in need. Donation options are accessible as well. A $60.00 contribution can provide a fully stocked backpack for a student in need. People may also support the cause by contributing to MRCF’s Walmart and Target Registries through the following links: Walmart or Target.

The Monet Richardson Community Foundation is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of children and young community members by giving out 300 backpacks this year in Nash, Orange, & Edgecombe Counties. Their Backpack and Academic Scholarship Programs provide essential support and resources, ensuring a brighter future for these promising minds.
