MONROE, La. (KNOE) – The City of Monroe announces the renewal of the 1% Capital Infrastructure Sales Tax.

First approved in 1994 for street projects, the tax was expanded in 2001 to cover streets, sewers, drainage, waterworks, bridges, and public facilities.

Sources say the renewal is expected to generate $18.8 million annually for ongoing improvements.

Mayor Friday Ellis thanked voters, saying, “The renewal is a victory for Monroe, reflecting our community’s commitment to long-term planning and efficient use of tax dollars. I’m grateful for the support and will continue working to improve quality of life for all residents.”
