“The ministry is focusing on infrastructure to support the investment. Meanwhile, the investment process is carried out by the IKN Authority (OIKN) and Investment Ministry,” chair of the IKN Infrastructure Development Task Force of the PUPR Ministry, Danis Sumadilaga, remarked on Friday.
According to Sumadilaga, the government is focused on building basic infrastructure, such as by ensuring access to water, electricity, Internet, and other facilities, to support non-state budget development or investor-oriented development, such as hotels and private hospitals.
He said that the state budget was utilized for the construction of various basic infrastructures.
“Hotels definitely need running water and electricity,” he emphasized.
When asked about lands allocated for foreign investors, Sumadilaga revealed that discussion regarding this matter had yet to take place.
“Not yet,” he stated.
Earlier, at the House of Representatives’ (DPR RI’s) Commission VI Working Meeting, Minister of Investment and Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia remarked that IKN had yet to draw foreign investors.
“All investment comes from within the country, outside of the state budget,” Lahadalia said at the meeting on Tuesday (June 11).
The completion of basic infrastructure development was crucial for the inflow of foreign investment into IKN, and to this end, the government is accelerating the process, he said.
Lahadalia highlighted that further interactions with foreign investors would take place after August 17, 2024.
Regarding the resignation of OIKN head, Bambang Susantono, the minister ensured that the investment process at IKN is still progressing.
He claimed no complaints were received from investors after his resignation. In fact, he said, the investment process in IKN could run faster since it was being handled by PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, who currently also serves as the OIKN acting head.
