Mercer University has been named one of the 25 most beautiful college campuses by U.S. News & World Report.
The magazine noted Mercer’s “blooming azaleas, magnolia and pink Yoshino cherry trees, vibrant fall foliage and Victorian Gothic-style architecture” as part of the landscape that makes the Macon campus stand out.
The list, published Jan. 31, also called out the iconic spires atop the R. Kirby Godsey Administration Building and the architecture of the School of Law, which was modeled after Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
“There’s a magic formula in the intersection of a historic tree-canopied oasis and the modern amenities necessary for a campus of Mercer’s stature,” University President William D. Underwood told U.S. News & World Report. “It’s a formula that can’t be manufactured.”
Mercer is joined on the list by campuses such as Harvard, Notre Dame, Princeton, Duke and Stanford.
U.S. News & World Report, a recognized leader in college and graduate school rankings, stated that it chose colleges for the list based on “attributes such as stunning architecture, picturesque settings or spectacular landscaping.”
