Melanie Griffith and daughter Stella Banderas go shopping in LA… after ex Don Johnson said the ’80s were crazy’

Must read

Melanie Griffith was seen in the Larchmont neighborhood of Los Angeles with her daughter Stella Banderas, 27, on Thursday.

The mother and daughter duo have a lot to celebrate, as Stella recently got engaged to her childhood sweetheart Alex Gruszynski.

The Working Girl star, 67, looked fit and trim in a v-neck black sweater and well-worn, well-fitting jeans held up with a black belt.

A black crossbody handbag and chic sunglasses completed the Bonfire of the Vanities actress’ look.

The two women walked Stella’s dogs and carried shopping bags on the balmy Southern California day.

Melanie shares Stella with her ex-husband Antonio Banderas, whom she began a relationship with in 1996 during filming of their movie Two Much.

They married and welcomed Stella that same year.

Melanie went on to star in Banderas’ 1999 directorial debut Crazy In Alabama, which also featured Stella’s first on-screen role.

She filed for divorce from Antonio in June 2014 after 18 years of marriage.

Melanie’s youngest child is the half-sister of Alexander Bauer and Dakota Johnson, 34, from her marriages to Steven Bauer and Don Johnson, 74, respectively.

Although the former couple divorced six years ago, they have remained close and Antonio, 61, says Melanie will always be part of his life because they shared so many ‘wonderful years’ and have their ‘wonderful daughter’ Stella together.

Don and Melanie were married for six months in 1976 and again from 1989 to 1994.

The Nash Bridges actor is enjoying a career resurgence, appearing in Netflix’s Rebel Ridge and Hulu’s Doctor Odyssey. He recently reminisced about the height of his fame in the 1980s when he was starring in Miami Vice.

‘For a long time, I couldn’t even go anywhere,’ Johnson told People of dealing with his ardent Miami Vice fans.

‘I had to isolate. The [women] know where you are. We had security 24/7. One day, I reflected on Elvis and thought, “Isn’t this kind of the way Elvis lived and died?”

‘Not that I’m comparing myself to Elvis, but in terms of him not being able to have a personal life. So I learned to manage it and vowed not to let it imprison me.’

And back then he was worried about more than just his crazed fans – he was also worried about being typecast in the role of Sonny Crockett on Miami Vice.

‘My goal then was to not be Sonny Crockett forever,’ he said. ‘I had seen the peril of the actors who were too identifiable with their character. I felt like I had to separate myself from Sonny so people could eventually see me as other characters.’

But 40 years later, he’s grateful for the exposure – and fame – the role brought him.

‘It’s the 40th anniversary of Miami Vice this year, and hey, I’m still here,’ he said, chuckling.

And as for those screaming female fans, the actor said, ‘Fame is a condition,’ adding, ‘But it goes away.’
