BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Now that the weather has turned, the City of Binghamton says you can expect to see road crews out and about fixing up streetscapes.
Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham announced this morning that the city’s $9.3 million infrastructure improvement plan is underway.
The mayor met road crews re-paving Margaret Street on the West Side this morning as they were milling three to five inches of the old pavement to make way for the new asphalt.
Kraham says the infrastructure plan aims to mill and pave 45 Binghamton streets. He says just as importantly, crews will be upgrading the underground utilities, including water lines, sewer systems, and storm water infrastructure.
“People that have lived in their homes for ten, twenty, thirty, even forty years, and have never seen their street redone. So, we’re attacking this as an issue. We’re making sure that resident who deserve safe and quality streets, upgraded sidewalks, new curbs, are getting that exact thing in the City of Binghamton,” said Kraham.
He says the city will be updating curbs and sidewalks to adhere to ADA regulations.
The city expects construction to continue throughout the Summer and into the early Fall.
Among the dozens of streets to be reconstructed are Matthews Street, Mulberry Street and Vestal Ave.
Kraham reminds residents that they can report potholes to be fixed by using the City of Binghamton’s app, which can be found on both the Google Play, and Apple stores.
