Mary Ellen (Fields) Briggs, 90, of Dunkirk, NY, passed away Thursday March 7, 2024, at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk, NY. She was born June 8, 1933, in Dunkirk, NY, daughter of the late Dennis Charles Fields and Loretta Agnes (Carrus) Fields.

Mary Ellen is survived by her brother, Wayne (Nancy) Fields; children: Sandee Briggs, Caroline (Frederic) Henney, Jr., James Richard (Kimberley) Briggs, Jr., Paul Briggs, Thomas (Michelle) Briggs, Michael Briggs, Steven (Karen) Briggs, Laurel Briggs Stockton; grandchildren: Alison (John) Schroeder, Colleen (Richard) Mounts, Sara Crocoll (Sean) Smith, Nicholas Crocoll (Jill), James Richard (Jenny Berggren) Briggs III, Matthew (Brenda) Briggs, Kelsey Briggs, Grace Winters, Thomas (Molly Case) Briggs II, Joshua (Erica) Briggs, Preston (Margaret (Meg)) Briggs, Courtney Briggs, Craig Briggs (Lizzy), Dennis Briggs, and Janeyre Stockton, as well as 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great (and great-great) nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the Reisweber family: Mark, Deb, Kenny (Paula and son Henry), Natalie (Peter and son Michael) Basnight, Melinda (John) Bell, and the entire Thompson Family. Besides her parents, Mary Ellen is predeceased by sisters, Diana Chrabasz, Zelda Allenza, Florence Greene, and brothers, Dennis Fields Jr., and Joseph Fields. A note of genuine gratitude from her family is extended to the staff of the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their care, support, patience, and friendship over the years.

Mary Ellen was a remarkable woman-unselfish, hardworking, and always thinking of others before herself. She was always giving to her children and those she loved, even when she had nothing left to give. Mary Ellen was an avid reader and donations in her memory can be made to the Dunkirk Free Library.

Family and friends are invited to attend graveside services for Mary Ellen at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Willowbrook Park Cemetery on Central Avenue in Dunkirk, with a luncheon to follow at the First Ward Falcon Club, 341 Lake Shore Dr. E., Dunkirk.
