Margaret Gregory

Must read

Margaret Gregory, age 68, of Fredonia, NY passed away on July 19, 2024 from complications that arose from her lung cancer.

She was born on March 1, 1956 at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo, NY and that is where she sought her medical care for her final days, where they took excellent care of her and made her final hours peaceful and comfortable. They brought her into this world with great care, and helped her pass on to the next with that very same great care!

Margaret is survived by her younger sister, Jenifer (Gregory) Beltz of Oregon, WI and her olderbrother, Mark Gregory, of Pinehurst, NC.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Joan (Clifford) Gregory, and her father, Frederick Gregory.

Margaret was an active member of the Pillar of Fire Church in Dunkirk, and for the last 7 years played piano for the congregation every Sunday. Her piano playing skills were of the highest order, and at one point, while still a teenager and in high school, took advanced lessons from a music professor at Fredonia State, who exclaimed: “There’s nothing more I can teach you!”

Margaret loved all animals, large and small, and her heart always went out to them. She was a volunteer with the Dunkirk Humane Society in their stray cat division. She rescued countless numbers of animals from freezing conditions and extremely difficult circumstances, both in her capacity at the Humane Society, and throughout her entire life. She would spend a significant portion of her income over the years in order to feed the birds and other wildlife everywhere she found herself.

Margaret was also a member of the “Books and Beyond” book club at the Dunkirk Public Library.

During her time in Albuquerque, NM she was a volunteer at their Rape Crisis Center. She had visited 46 of the United States of America, and the only states left on her ‘bucket list” were Alaska, Hawaii, North Dakota and Washington.

Margaret was valedictorian of her 1974 graduating class at the now defunct Cardinal Mindszenty High School in Dunkirk, and was looking forward to her 50 Year Class Reunion, which will take place on August 2nd of this year. While at Mindszenty, she played the role of Annie Sullivan to perfection in the Drama Club play: The Miracle Worker. Margaret went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree from the State University at Fredonia, and then, at Florida State University, she earned her Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, which led to her work with Control Data, where she designed instructional programs for the United States Air Force.

The family will be holding a private service for Margaret in the near future.

Margaret will be greatly missed by her family and her very many friends. Rest in Peace,

Margaret. We wish you “Love and Light,” so: “Have a Day!”
